I've been reading up what I can find about radiant electric products and am wondering one what your experiences have been with costs per sqft (not including installation).

I saw this comparison at Warmzone.com

Product----------Zoning*--Price/Sq.Ft**
Danfoss LX Cable-320------$5.00 / sq.ft. and up
Danfoss LX Mats--320------$5.00 / sq.ft. and up
Danfoss TX-------310------$4.00 / sq.ft. and up
Zmesh------------675------$6.75 / sq.ft. and up
RetroHeat--------480------$5.00 / sq.ft. and up
Hydronic---------varies---$6.00 / sq.ft. and up

*A Zone is considered any area that is heated by a single thermostat. This column gives you the approximate maximum square feet you can heat with one thermostat per system.

**The best price per square foot is obtained when maxing out the system (heating the largest area possible per system).
---------------------------------------------------------------

Do these costs match up with real world experiences?

So for larger area heating, bigger than a bathroom, what is the most affordable electric radiant systems? Mats? Wires? Mesh?

Thanks for sharing!

Hi, I am new to forums. Regarding electric radiant costs, generally, the cost per 1 KW, or 1000 watts, of use is roughly 10 cents an hour. It varies and must be based on your utility bill. But my experience is that most residential utility bills reflect 8-12 cents per 1000 watts. Businesses may be similar but in cases some have a cost scale based on usage. A 3000 watt electric radiant infrad unit, like a quartz tube unit, will cost about 30 cents an hour to run. That unit based on its mounting heigh can have different heating area coverages. Knowing the mounting height will give you that square footage of coverage area. Given that the 3000 watt unit is about 30 cents an hour to run multiplied by the hours it is on turned per day gives you a daily cost that can be divided into the square footage of coverage, or the square footage of the room it is in to get square footage cost.
