Hi
Can you help please? Radiant heat was installed in my newbuild lounge 5 years ago - The heating works beautifully until the temperature outside drops into/below the 30's (F) - then I cannot get the room above 55 degrees. The floor is a floating engineered wood. I have been told that all the heat is getting trapped beneath the wood floor and therefore adding a few vents into the wood will help the heat to escape and therefore improve the efficiency and heat in the room. Please can you advise me if this would indeed work - It sounds probable? Thank you and best, Richard Barnett |

A proper heat load analysis determines the output of the heat source and the design water temperture at which the system will operate in order to satisfy the indoor design temperature (thermostat).
Much speculation will follow, but an accurate heat load taken off from an accurate set of plans including windows, insulation, floor coverings and existing heat source are essential. |

hard to say Richard. pulling heat out of the joist bay will reduce your radiant's performance, so you might get something out of the vent but that will lower the output of the rest of the floor.
you are better off figuring out what the real problem is and fixing it, or adding supplemental heat emitters such as a radiator or baseboard. ------------------------------ -=Northeast Radiant Technology, LLC=- Radiant Design, supply and consultation services. www.NRTradiant.com |
